In honor of African-American month, I have selected a quotation from Ms. Kamala Devi Harris. We certainly achieved an historic milestone with America’s first ever female Vice President, so her place in today’s weekly affirmation feels apropos.
“You never have to ask anyone’s permission to lead, Just lead.”
I love that she asks us not to seek permission. It is not lost on me that women often seek permission and or acceptance, especially when applying for jobs or seeking positions of leadership. She says it so perfectly: You never have to ask anyone’s permission to lead. Just lead. I have found myself doing this very thing, especially in a time of a pandemic when heads are rolling and emotions are flying. People are desperate for leadership.
It doesn’t matter where you are in life. Even in retirement, you have the opportunity to lead yourself through periods of unrest or pain or uncertainty. Do not ask for permission to navigate your journey through such times. Do not presume someone else would do it better. Simply lift your eyes toward the prize and lead. And above all, believe in yourself.
I wish you a beautiful day and a beautiful week ahead.
Always yours,
Dr. Abha
