“Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.”  -Dalai Lama

Wow. I needed to hear that at this very moment. Savor that notion for a bit. Disappointment most often follows when we do not get what we had wanted, or expected, or believe we were deserving of.  Ever open a letter, an email, or a gift, only to peer inside and discover the exact opposite of what you had expected. (To avail myself of that after 20 years, I now send detailed information to my spouse of what I want.)  But despite such specifications, I am not necessarily guaranteed gratification. Gratification is ultimately a mindset, not a thing or a want. Perhaps the goal of life is not to long for anything, but to ride the waves of life and follow the journey, however arduous or uncertain. And in that journey, discover new ways of thriving.

Change your disappointment by allowing for an ‘anything goes’ mentality. By detaching yourself from the outcome, you remove yourself from the emotional entanglement of distress or even joy. When something happens, ride that wave as part of life’s ebb and flow, and discover your life’s journey.
Make it a beautiful week.
